I believe we all owe an apology to Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine.

At the start of the season, some people once again harshly criticized his level of involvement, even though his defensive play was much better than last year.
Several even heavily criticized him for a gesture he made during his very last game (while healthy), right before the announcement of his surgery and serious injury...
After seeing the following video...
And after seeing certain photos showing Laine as the only one on the Canadiens' bench not "celebrating" Cole Caufield's tying goal, many criticized him harshly, even saying it was an embarrassing gesture toward his teammates and the Canadiens organization.
Today, everything is explained!

Controversial gesture by Patrik Laine on the Canadiens bench: we now have an explanation, and he's completely forgiven

If Patrik Laine didn't get up to celebrate Caufield's goal with his teammates-if he was the only one who stayed seated on the bench-it's probably simply because he was in too much pain and was physically unable to stand up (due to his sports hernia).
It's an extremely painful injury:
"The way I've describe Laine's play so far is that it looked like every stride was painful for him, and sure enough, a sports hernia is extremely painful when untreated. Really hope we can see his best play in February."

- HFTV
We also highly recommend the following segment from TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau, who (rightly) comes to Laine's defense as well:
"How can you be effective on the ice against the best with a sprained knee?

How can you be effective on the ice when you're a shooter with a fractured finger?

How can you be effective on the ice when you have a sports hernia in your abdominal?"

- Anthony Martineau
Very well said!
For a guy who was playing through an extremely painful injury, he really wasn't that bad at all!

For 1 year at 3 million, would you immediately re-sign Patrik Laine in Montreal?
