We've got some action on the NHL waiver wire to kick off this new week, and two options are available to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

It's also important to note that there are only a few days - maybe even just a few hours - left before the Habs lose their sixteenth position (their 16th claim priority) for making waiver claims.
Until November 1st, last season's standings are used to determine waiver order (which explains the Habs' 16th position). After that, the 2025-26 season standings will determine the order.
So, the Canadiens will soon have around the 26th or 27th overall position when it comes to claiming players... Anyway!

Two players placed on the NHL waiver wire and two options for the Montreal Canadiens if Kent Hughes wants to replace Patrik Laine

With Patrik Laine sidelined for 3-4 months following surgery, Kent Hughes could explore two intriguing waiver options to fill the gap in Montreal's lineup.
Here's confirmation from the well-known Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet):
"Waivers:

Chaffee (TB)

Newly-signed Brett Leason (WASH)"

He has 0 points in seven games this season but collected 18 points in 66 games (including 12 goals) last season.
Brett Leason, 26 years old, is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward who has 54 points in 220 NHL games, split between the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks.
Last season with the Ducks, he registered 17 points in 62 games.
More details to come.
