The news of Lane Hutson's contract signing brings immense joy to fans of the Montreal Canadiens.

Not only will the 2024-2025 Calder Trophy winner remain with the team for several more seasons, but Kent Hughes also managed to sign him at a more than reasonable salary, given the circumstances.

The agent of Lane Hutson confirms the rumor about what really happened in Detroit, before the game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Red Wings

According to Lane Hutson's agent, Sean Coffey, the young 28-year-old defenseman made it a priority to get this deal done as quickly as possible.
"Lane's wish from the start was to reach an agreement before the beginning of the season, but it dragged on longer than expected.

We were in Detroit, and it was Lane who pushed for it to get done."

Wow! So the rumor was true... It was Lane Hutson himself who got directly involved!
The fact that Hutson accepted less money to stay with the Canadiens reflects a new reality that will likely please fans even more than the signing itself.
During an interview with TVA Sports journalist Nicolas Cloutier, Sean Coffey revealed that the Montreal market has become popular again and that many NHL players now want to wear the bleu-blanc-rouge uniform.
"We're seeing it right now - there are very few future restricted free agents signing contract extensions, and none of those who have signed play in a market like Montreal, where players agree to take less, explained Coffey. That made the process even more complicated.

Players want to win and perform on the biggest stage. A Tuesday night game in Montreal can feel like a Stanley Cup Final. Everything matters here. They want to be part of meaningful games, and in Montreal, the core is growing together.

All the members of the core in Montreal are roughly the same age, and they're developing together. The players there know that something special is being built, and that definitely played a role. Lane chose peace of mind."

The agent also confirms the rumor that players now genuinely want to sign in Montreal... We love it!
We saw it this summer with the arrival of Noah Dobson who, after being acquired from the New York Islanders, agreed to a long-term contract with the Tricolore.
