At a press conference just moments ago, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes spoke about Patrik Laine.

Laine has been the subject of a lot of discussion in recent weeks, with many experts weighing in on his case, but what does the boss think?
What does Kent Hughes think?
That's what we were really eager to hear, and now we have our answer.

Kent Hughes is full of praise for Patrik Laine

Hughes was indeed asked about Laine, and he responded with a powerful statement, one that says a lot.
He mentioned, on several occasions, that the Montreal Canadiens would never have made the playoffs without Patrik Laine.
Wow.
Hughes did admit that Laine's 5-on-5 play isn't always perfect, and that there have been ups and downs, but overall, the GM seemed very satisfied with Laine's season.
"Kent Hughes says the Canadiens wouldn't have made the playoffs without Patrik Laine.

It wasn't always pretty at 5-on-5, but Hughes emphasized that Laine scored crucial goals and showed a willingness to improve."

- Marco D'Amico

It's that willingness to improve, shown by Laine, that really seems to have impressed Hughes.
"Without Patrik Laine, we don't make the playoffs" - Kent Hughes, who also added that he was impressed by No. 92's willingness to learn during their discussions, despite his great offensive talent.
This seems to confirm that Laine will be back with the Canadiens next season.
More details to come.
