After the Montreal Canadiens were eliminated by the Washington Capitals, several small truths have come to light.
As is often the case, a number of players made small confessions during their end-of-season interviews.
One of them was
David Savard, a fan favourite and a favourite among his teammates, who admitted the following:
"And speaking of the GM, Savard admitted on TSN 690 this afternoon that he had asked Hughes not to trade him at the deadline.
He knew he was going to retire at the end of the year, so he didn't want to leave Quebec."

David Savard outright asked Kent Hughes not to trade him
We can certainly wonder if Hughes turned down offers in order to respect Savard's wish, but we can safely assume the answer is very likely yes.
A classy move by Kent Hughes, and a heartfelt one from Savard too, who chose to go "all in" with Montreal rather than try his luck with a contender like Florida or Dallas.
In the end, Savard's wish was granted, and he was able to finish his career with the Montreal Canadiens.
It gave us a magical moment:
What a career, and what an incredible veteran presence to have in a young locker room like the Canadiens'.
Thank you for everything, Papy Savy!
