The trade rumors involving Sidney Crosby and the Montreal Canadiens continue to stir up conversation, and now a well-known insider has an update on the matter.
"I know the Montreal speculation has exploded; I don't think it's impossible; if he agreed to be traded, I think Montreal would be on a very short list of teams he'd be willing to consider." - Elliotte Friedman
Coming from an insider as respected and well-connected as Friedman, this is huge.
Elliotte Friedman confirms that it's not impossible to see Sidney Crosby with the Montreal Canadiens and that the Habs would be on his short list in case of a trade
We know this possibility makes Canadiens fans dream, and now the Sportsnet journalist has essentially confirmed that the chances of seeing Sidney Crosby in a bleu-blanc-rouge uniform are real.
However, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas would need the green light from the 38-year-old veteran because, as Friedman mentions, Sidney Crosby alone controls his future in the NHL.
He will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027, but if the Penguins were to finally decide to begin a rebuilding process, Kent Hughes would need to be ready if the phone rings and the call comes from the Steel City. We also know the Canadiens are potentially interested in
Crosby's longtime friend and teammate Malkin. This will be a story to follow, especially if the Penguins get off to a terrible start this season.
