Young defenseman Lane Hutson has just scored his first career goal in the National Hockey League, and with the Montreal Canadiens. A magical and highly anticipated moment for the young Canadiens prodigy.
Watch and rewatch the sequence in question:
A Wonderful Gesture From Cole Caufield and Mike Matheson After Lane Hutson's Goal Against the Winnipeg Jets
In the video above, notice the immediate reaction from Cole Caufield and Mike Matheson, who rush (almost as if their lives depended on it) to retrieve the puck for Hutson.
It's such a beautiful moment and speaks volumes about the strong chemistry in the Canadiens' locker room.
Indeed, it's truly heartwarming to see the entire team so happy for their young teammate.
Hutson is steadily building a strong case to win the 2025 Calder Trophy and to be named NHL Rookie of the Year.
His main competitors are Matvei Michkov, Macklin Celebrini (his former NCAA teammate at Boston University), and Logan Stankoven.
Personally, I'd give the edge to Hutson at the moment. This is a story to watch closely.
At just 20 years old, Lane Hutson already has 20 points in 29 games this season (at the time of writing), including 19 assists. He truly seems poised to become a major steal from the 2022 NHL Draft.
Let's not forget that he was selected 62nd overall, a pick acquired through the Brett Kulak trade with the Edmonton Oilers in March 2022.
