After being ignored by Team USA for the 2026 Olympic Games, Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield broke his silence.

Caufield responded like a pro, but it was clear that it obviously affected him. On Friday, Team USA unveiled its roster for the 2026 Olympic Games.
His name was not on it, and many criticized this decision by Bill Guerin and his associates.
In Montreal, people know that this kind of decision will hurt them. On Monday, Caufield spoke with Sportsnet and delivered his full statement, without bitterness.
He did not look for excuses or drama.
Instead, he brought it back to the attitude and respect for the selected group.

Cole Caufield's reaction after being ignored by Team USA for the 2026 Olympic Games

He indeed did not mince his words, and he knew exactly what to say.
Here is the statement in question:
"At the end of the day, I'm still going to cheer for the team regardless," Caufield told Sportsnet on Monday.

"You want the best for those guys. If they don't pick you, you still want them to win to know that they picked the right team. At the end of the day, it's not the end of the world, and it's not going to stop me from competing."

- Cole Caufield

The response of a true professional!
Caufield is 25 years old and he is no longer a project. He was drafted 15th overall in 2019, and he is now signed long term.
His contract is eight years, worth $62.8M, with an average of $7.85M per season, and it has become a very good move by Kent Hughes, especially since Caufield is now a solid, very complete hockey player.
The Olympic Games begin on February 11, and the final is scheduled for February 22.
Until then, there are enough games left for things to change, especially with injuries. Caufield knows it, and that's also why he is staying the course.
The message, at its core, is that he still wants to prove something.
No need to shout to be heard.
In Montreal, when a guy says it won't stop him, we understand exactly what that means.
