Team USA has officially released its men's roster for the 2026 Olympic Games, and two notable Montreal Canadiens names are missing.
Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson were both left off the American lineup for Milano Cortina 2026, a surprising and disappointing decision.
Caufield and Hutson completely ignored by Team USA for the 2026 Olympic Games
A major disappointment for two exceptional Montreal Canadiens players who are having impressive seasons.
The American Olympic roster has indeed been released, and two Canadiens names are missing.
In the minutes that followed, many Montreal Canadiens fans noticed the same thing: Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson are not there.
When a list like this comes out, it quickly becomes a test of reputation. The United States chose to go in a different direction, and it shows in the names that were announced.
Auston Matthews is there, Jack Eichel as well, and the Hughes brothers naturally draw attention.
Caufield is already a face of the Canadiens, and Hutson has become a name that keeps coming up in discussions. They both have 40 points in 40 games which is very impressive.
Seeing them ignored by the American team is surprising, especially with all the buzz surrounding them for quite some time now.
The good news for the Canadiens is that it removes a distraction. Less travel, less circus, and more routine with Martin St-Louis.
And in a season where Montreal wants to take a step forward, that kind of stability matters.
That said, it is still very disappointed for these two young players, who more than deserved it.
