General manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, announced Sunday that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year, one-way contract (2025-2026 to 2026-2027) with goaltender Jakub Dobes. The deal will pay him an average of $965,000 per season.

He had an excellent season, particularly in terms of statistics.
Dobes played in 16 games with the Canadiens in 2024-2025, posting a 7-4-3 record, a goals-against average of 2.74, and a save percentage of .909.
The 6-foot-4, 215 lb goaltender ranked fourth in the NHL in wins among rookie goalies and was one of five rookie netminders to record a shutout.

Dobes, a fifth round pick in 2020, put up a stellar .909 save percentage as a rookie in the NHL this season. He stood out for his 6-foot-4 frame, as well as for his mobility from post-to-post, both crucial elements in projecting a future NHL goalie.
This contract will give the Canadiens a chance to see if Dobes is a key part of the future, or just a stop-gap measure; this contract certainly isn't dissimilar to the two-year extension Samuel Montembeault got after his rookie year!
