The Montreal Canadiens have taken a tough blow before facing the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.

Jake Evans has been placed on the injured list. The news broke just a few hours before a second game in as many nights.
Evans was injured last night and his condition is still being evaluated by the medical staff, but let's just say this announcement (especially coming so quickly) does not bode well at all for Evans.
Renaud Lavoie confirmed the news.

The Montreal Canadiens have already placed Jake Evans' name on the injured list

Losing Evans at this moment disrupts Martin St-Louis's structure. Even with Danault incoming, Evans remains a core utility forward. He anchors penalty-kill shifts and handles hard defensive minutes the team trusts him with.
His absence forces an immediate reorganization of the lines and responsibilities.
The Habs had already recalled Samuel Blais as reinforcement, but internal options therefore become limited in the short term.
Facing Pittsburgh with an already fatigued lineup adds an extra degree of difficulty. Without him, some players will have to absorb more faceoffs and more defensive minutes.
Evans' injury has also triggered a chain reaction within the organization. The recall of Blais led to movements in Laval, proof that every decision has a wider impact.
For now, the Habs are not talking about a long-term absence. But the simple fact that he was placed on the injured list indicates concern.
This is not the news we were hoping for before the game.
It is, however, an opportunity for the group to show its ability to adapt, even when setbacks keep piling up.
