It somewhat flew under the radar this week, but the Canadiens' GM practically confirmed an initial goaltending decision.
The rumor has been circulating for a few days, but Habs management has reportedly made their choice official.
Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes Reportedly Set to Be the Two Goaltenders for the Canadiens to Start Next Season
It's a big decision, but it's the right one.
Dobes is young and relatively experienced, but he checked every box this season and didn't deserve to be pushed aside in favor of a new acquisition.
Not only are Montembeault and Dobes reportedly locked in as the Canadiens' two goalies for next season, but a major shift in philosophy also appears to be taking shape.
According to several sources, including Max Truman:
"If I were Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, I'd keep Montembeault and Dobes in Montreal next year: Dobes to challenge Montembeault for the number one spot. I'd pair Fowler with a veteran capable of being a #2 in Montreal in case of injury. I'm pretty convinced that's what they'll do."

The Canadiens are said to be open to a change in the goaltending hierarchy.
The goal would be to allow Jakub Dobes to challenge Samuel Montembeault for the number-one goalie role.
At least, that's the Canadiens' plan.
It'll definitely be something to watch next fall, but the Canadiens seem open to reigniting a goaltending competition for the starting role-even after Montembeault's very convincing performance this season.
