We have a major development regarding a file Kent Hughes is currently working on.

It's the kind of topic that would've shocked all of Quebec five years ago, but today, it's simply a matter of salary cap management.
Don't be surprised, just like with Shea Weber, if Carey Price's contract is traded this summer.
The reason is simple.
His contract wasn't a problem for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton while the Canadiens were in a full rebuild, but now that the team is aiming for the playoffs and pursuing certain acquisitions, it has become a stone in Kent Hughes' shoe, as Kevin Vallée puts it.
According to Marco D'Amico, several NHL executives and insiders have said that Kent Hughes may be very aggressive in this matter.
He could be quite persistent in finding a trade partner for Carey Price.

A Trade Incoming for Carey Price

As well explained here, trading Carey Price's contract could open the door for Hughes to make a bigger move afterward.
Keeping Carey Price's contract would really tie Kent Hughes' hands this summer.
No, LTIR is not the solution to everything for the Canadiens!
"The Canadiens owe Price $5.5M on July 1.

After that, only one year remains on his contract, which could be useful for teams looking to reach a cap that's set to rise significantly.

And during that year, he'll only make $2 million in actual cash.

By trading #31's contract, the Canadiens would gain nearly $20 million in cap space."

- Kevin Vallée
This will definitely be a situation to watch. In the meantime, we highly recommend Marco D'Amico's article on the subject, he's very well-informed about what's happening around the NHL:
As for the price to pay, remember that the last trade involving Shea Weber's contract (to the Chicago Blackhawks) cost Utah HC two prospects, and they got a fifth-round pick in return.
So it could look something like this:
Carey Price + Riley Kidney + Noel Hoefenmayer for a 2026 fifth-round pick.
Would you do it?
