Journalist Martin Leclerc, during his usual segment on BPM Sports, confirmed that Kent Hughes pulled off a steal.
With the acquisition of defenseman
Alexandre Carrier, in exchange for
Justin Barron no less, he truly considers that the Canadiens pulled off a heist in the trade market.
Live with Greg Lanctot, Leclerc explicitly stated that he absolutely considers it a steal.

See the clip in question.
When Greg mentioned that it's a steal to acquire a top-4 defenseman (Carrier) for a defenseman who was literally the 8th in the Montreal Canadiens' organization (Barron), journalist Leclerc responded with this:
«Absolutely. I still don't understand why the Nashville Predators made this trade.
But he's an extremely effective guy; he's a true professional.
Carrier played over 250 games in the minors before reaching the National Hockey League.
He's an intense guy, he has great hockey sense, and he shows up to every game.
He's an incredible addition for the Canadiens.
When you always have a hole to fill on defense, you can't survive; you can't be effective in the National Hockey League. So, it's a very, very good trade.»

This sums it up well, and once again, I want to tip my hat to Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton for this solid trade.
With Carrier in the lineup, the Canadiens are riding a red-hot 5-1 streak. He has completely transformed the defensive corps for Martin St-Louis' squad.
