Seconds after being (finally) drafted into the NHL, by the Seattle Kraken, and minutes after being passed over by the Montreal Canadiens, young forward Shane Wright was caught glaring at the Tricolore table as he took the stage at the Bell Centre.
A video that really made the rounds on the web.
In an interview earlier today with Sportsnet, Wright was finally able to speak out on the matter, and he was able to clear the air.
"Not at all. I was simply looking at the cameras in front of me. To be honest, I don't really remember the moment I stepped on stage. I wasn't trying to stare anyone down, even though that's what comes across in the video." - Shane Wright
He admits it really does look like that, but he says he just wanted to look at the camera in front of him with a serious face.
Many fans are very skeptical of this answer, especially since normally players who get drafted usually have a big smile on their face, not such an icy look, directed at the cameras.
Either way, let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Wright assures us that he really didn't mean any harm.
