In the last few seconds, the National Hockey League has just announced the three finalists for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the rookie of the year.
The nominees are Michael Bunting of the Toronto Maple Leafs (63 points), Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks (61 points) and Moritz Seider of the Detroit Red Wings (50 points).
Disappointment for forward Lucas Raymond (Detroit). Even though he is the third highest scorer among rookies, he is being overlooked.
Bad news also for Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens, who was ignored despite a terrific end to the season. He finished the season with 23 goals and 43 points.
In the second half of the season, he was probably the best rookie in the league. Are you surprised?
