Trade between the Habs and the Avs: mission accomplished for Hughes and Sakic

As you probably already know, last night the Colorado Avalanche eliminated the Edmonton Oilers in overtime thanks to a goal from Artturi Lehkonen.

It was the second year in a row that Lehky have done so:

Nathan MacKinnon is very happy with the Lehkonen acquisition, to say the least, and he didn't shy away from saying it very clearly.

No, Lehkonen didn't cost ten first round picks, but he did cost a former first round pick (Justin Barron) and a second round pick in 2024.

Today, you can clearly say that this was a successful trade for the Colorado Avalanche and Joe Sakic can definitely say "mission accomplished" on this one:

"So Artturi Lehkonen scored the goal to "clinch" a Stanley Cup Final appearance two years in a row.

Is that what being 'clutch' is all about?"-Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

As many have illustrated, it's rare for this to happen, but under the circumstances, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens can also say "mission accomplished", this is truly a successful trade for both organizations:

"Great for everyone! Lehkonen brings a lot to the Avs and Justin Barron + a 2nd round pick is perfect for the rebuild in Montreal!

Lehkonen will command a salary in the 4M+ range and the wings are already too expensive in MTL! And won't be playoffs for 2-3-4 years!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

A nice win-win trade like we (too) rarely see and now we can only wish Artturi Lehkonen the best of luck in the Stanley Cup Finals.
