When commenting on the trade that sent him to Washington, Joel Edmundson confirmed a fact that we all knew: the team's management is looking to rejuvenate the lineup.

After the trade with Washington involving "Eddy," CapFriendly recently updated its statistics and published the list of the youngest teams in the league. When we look at the facts, Montreal is currently the 6th youngest team in the league.
It is certainly the Canadiens' defense that allows the team to rank 6th in this regard. Only David Savard (32 years old) and Chris Wideman (33 years old) are over 30 years old on the blue line, while Michael Matheson will enter his thirties next February.
All the other defensemen on the Canadiens' roster are 25 years old or younger: Jonathan Kovacevic (25 years old), Jordan Harris (22 years old), Arber Xhekaj (22 years old), Justin Barron (21 years old), and Kaiden Guhle (21 years old). We should also not forget those knocking on the door, like Lane Hudson, Logan Mailloux, and newcomer David Reinbacher.
As of now, Mike Hoffman (33 years old), Jake Allen (32 years old), Brendan Gallagher (31 years old), and Joel Armia (30 years old) are the other players over 30 years old in the organization. Josh Anderson (29 years old), Sean Monahan (28 years old), and Jake Evans (27 years old) are approaching that mark. All the other players on the team are below the average age of 26.2 years.
We should also not forget that the Laval Rocket has undergone the same rejuvenation process this summer. Many veterans have left the Canadiens' affiliate AHL club to make room for the young prospects recently drafted by the organization.
Here is a probable lineup for the Rocket in the upcoming season:
We are definitely entering a new phase of the rebuilding process, which involves playing the young players and developing them! Let's hope for progress this time!
