At the time of writing this post, there are 11 Montreal Canadiens regulars on the injured list. Because of this overflow in the infirmary, several Laval Rocket players have come in as reinforcements, including Ryan Poehling, Michael Pezzetta, Laurent Dauphin and Jesse Ylonen.
But when injuries return, players will have to go back to Laval, but who will get hurt first? Easy, Jesse Ylonen. After that, it should be Laurent Dauphin, who has to play 10 games or spend 30 days with the team before going on the shelf.
That's not the point of the angle. Let's talk about Ryan Poehling, who is no longer even in the discussion of players who could/should return to Laval. Cole Caufield is one of the names that have been brought up, but not Poehling.
It's simple, Poehling is making his mark and playing great hockey since his recall. If he continues to do so, his role will change from extra to regular. His line composed of himself, Artturi Lehkonen and Jake Evans are doing quite a job. The three men are currently the 2nd unit of the Montreal Canadiens.
I tell you one thing. Dominique Ducharme is using Jake Evans on the wing, while several players are on the sidelines. In Poehling's case, he remains on the center line, proving his usefulness.
Poehling is finally figuring out who he is as a hockey player and it's paying off!
