As we try to digest today's big news, including of course the (complicated) trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames:
There is also the major news concerning goalie
Carey Price:
Here's some interesting news, courtesy of the excellent Eric Engels (Sportsnet). An important development:
"I have to give it to them (Brad Treliving and Kent Hughes), they worked very hard to make this trade today, as it was initially rejected by the league due to the uncertainty of teams retaining certain picks. I'm not going to get into the detailed and complicated explanations - it's crazy enough - but the two got what they wanted." - Eric Engels
Interesting! So here we learn that the original trade, the first deal made between the Flames and the CH, was initially rejected by the NHL.
We still don't know exactly what that basic trade was that was rejected by the league, but we imagine it looked like the final deal. (Monahan + a first round pick, in exchange for future considerations)
Hats off to Kent Hughes (Montreal) and Brad Treliving (Calgary) for their good work and perseverance.
They could have called the whole thing off, after the league refused, but they went back to work and made the trade in the end. Do you think this is a good deal for Kent Hughes and the CH?
