According to a report from NHL whistleblower Kevin Weekes, veteran National League head coach John Tortorella has been interviewed by the Philadelphia Flyers for the vacant position behind their bench.
Tortorella worked alongside Weekes as an analyst for ESPN this season after leaving his position with the Columbus Blue Jackets last offseason. Torts, of course, has extensive NHL coaching experience with more than 20 years in the league coaching the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Blue Jackets. He won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004.
The Flyers announced earlier this season that interim head coach Mike Yeo, who was promoted to replace Alain Vigneault, would not return in 2022-23.
This information shows that Tortorella wants to return to the league as a head coach and not as an assistant. The rumors that place the veteran coach alongside his former player, Martin St-Louis, could therefore fade...
