The Canadiens have cut defenseman Arber Xhekaj and he will report to the Laval Rocket.
In the last few seconds, social networks were quickly set ablaze as the Montreal Canadiens announced this, bit you can breathe easy now, it's a temporary move.
"The Canadiens have cut defenseman Arber Xhekaj and he will report to the Laval Rocket."
- Montreal Canadiens
It's understandable for fans to have freaked out, but we just learned that Xhekaj will be staying with the CH. It's a simple cut to meet the salary cap.
See the explanation of Renaud Lavoie, from TVA Sports:
"I'm told that Arber Xhekaj is being sent down on a temporary basis and will be at the Canadiens' practice tomorrow. Paul Byron will be placed on the long-term injured list. This will create the necessary space under the cap to insert Xhekaj into the lineup and will be available on Wednesday."
So Habs Nation, don't freak out!
