This is the strangest scene this year! We're not done seeing and re-seeing that goal! The Lightning fans in the arena at Tampa Bay are still in disbelief.
See the strange sequence in question, which led to a goal awarded to the Montreal Canadiens.
What an unbelievable sequence, wow!
When they say you have to play until the referee's whistle, here's a perfect example showing why.
I have never seen anything like this in my life.
The goalie left his net, all the players stopped playing, and even the music started playing.
Definitely one of the weirder goals of the season, giving the Habs a 2-0 lead against the Lightning in the second period.
Samuel Montembeault actually held onto the puck for a few moments before passing it to his teammate Jonathan Kovacevic.
The opposing players, including goalie Jonas Johansson, all thought the referee had blown the whistle for a stoppage of play, but no. The game was still on and the official never whistled.
So, Kovacevic scored in an abandoned net.
