We reported to you earlier yesterday that an Edmonton Oilers scout was present Tuesday night during the meeting between the Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets and that a trade between the Habs and the Oilers would be very possible by March 21.

Among the players that Oilers general manager Ken Holland would be interested in would be defenseman Ben Chiarot and forward Artturi Lehkonen.

These two players have come up in the rumor mill a lot over the past few weeks, but if the Oilers intend to add any reinforcements to their roster, they'll have to make room under the salary cap.

As insider Maxim Guérin reports, the Oilers would have about $3 million available under the cap.

The latter adds that according to certain rumors circulating in Edmonton, goalie Mikko Koskinen has been on the market for about a year. We all know the Oilers are looking for a top playoff goaltender, but if Ken Holland wants to make room on the payroll, he'll have to move a few contracts.

This is where the option of trading Koskinen to the Canadiens becomes interesting, since he will be a free agent at the end of the season and the team has the space required to absorb his $4.5 million salary.

Could Kent Hughes trade with the Oilers and inherit Mikko Koskinen's contract? (with a compensation)

Everything remains possible but with the arrival of Andrew Hammond, it would therefore be surprising if the Canadian took this avenue.
