It is now known to all and probably inevitable, but the career of Shea Weber would be compromised, due to injuries. The Habs had made the announcement, following the playoffs.

Many questions immediately come to mind, including this one. Who will be the next captain of the Montreal Canadiens? A few names have been mentioned, including Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher. They are other intriguing options for the years to come.
However, what about the youngsters in the organization who are not yet established players at the professional level? Do they have captaincy potential as well? Without a doubt, yes.

Kaiden Guhle, the Canadiens' first round pick in 2020, is currently the captain of his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL. He is also expected to be the next captain of Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships this winter. Two well deserved honors for Guhle. Since the Habs selected him, there are so many parallels between him and Shea Weber. Two individuals with imposing size, heavy hitting and leadership to spare. Could he be considered for the CH captaincy in a few years? Clearly yes.

Jordan Harris will be the captain of Northeastern University in 2021-2022. He will be in his fourth season with the team, and he has decided to return for another year to have the chance to win a championship and continue his development. The Habs must be waiting for him, considering his potential. Remember that the Canadiens' third round pick in 2018 accumulated a total of 19 points, including 6 goals, in 19 games last year with Northeastern. He will be the undisputed leader of this team for the final year of his college career.

Jan Mysak, on the other hand, will be the captain of the Czech Republic team at the next World Junior Hockey Championships. He will also be the best player of the team. The Habs second round pick in 2020 got a taste of North American professional hockey in 2020-2021, when he played 22 games with the Laval Rocket last season. It may not have been a great debut for the young Czech, but he learned a lot from AHL veterans Xavier Ouellet and Alex Belzile.
If these youngsters ever get to play for the big club, they'll have a lot of character to work with. It will serve them well in their professional careers.
Maybe none of them will be the captain of the Tricolore, but they will be able to support the one who will wear the letter "C" in the future.
