This morning, a few days before the Montreal Canadiens' players officially return to action, the club's vice president of communications, Chantal Machabée, was interviewed by Cogeco Network's Mario Langlois on the program les Amateurs de sports.
In particular, she praised the exceptional work of Kent Hughes, in terms of transparency, who goes much further than any of his predecessors on this level:
"The Habs were making life difficult for themselves by trying to hide everything, when often the truth is quite simple and takes a ton of pressure off the player."- Chantal Machabée
Chantal also opened up on the subject of the Habs' next captain. Will it be Nick Suzuki? Joel Edmundson? Brendan Gallagher?
When will he be named?
A SURPRISE STATEMENT FROM CHANTAL
Obviously, this morning, Machabée did not confirm anything, but she did say that she sees three potential candidates, so we can suspect that they are the three individuals mentioned above.
It's interesting to see that she's getting her feet wet, we love it! So there would indeed be three candidates in the race.
Afterwards, Machabée goes a little further and makes a surprising statement. According to her, the vote for the next captain could be done... by the players, interesting!
"My feeling... they're going to give this to the players."
- Chantal Machabée
This goes squarely against the rumors that have been circulating, and while many experts didn't believe it at all, now the vote could actually go to the player. Do you like the idea?
So the decision would not come from Kent Hughes or Martin St-Louis, but the players could elect their new captain.
A really interesting interview, anyway!
We could even think that this unveiling could take place on Monday, during the organization's annual golf tournament, as the CH had already done in the past.
