Surprise Acquisition Rumour: Big Last-Minute Scoop Involving Ryan O'Reilly and the Canadiens
A few hours before the official opening of the NHL free agent market, a surprising rumor surfaced.
This involved a possible signing of Ryan O'Reilly with the Montreal Canadiens.
A rumour that took many by surprise, including us, but we finally have an explanation. As reported by the guys from Habs Fan TV, the excellent Jeff Marek just informed us of this:
"According to Jeff Marek, some of the Habs players tried to convince General Manager Kent Hughes to sign Ryan O'Reilly, but the Tricolore couldn't find a way to do it under the salary cap. Would O'Reilly have been a good addition to the team?"
Wow! So it came from the Montreal Canadiens players themselves! Interesting!
O'Reilly, 32, scored 11 points in 13 matches in 2023 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and 9 points in 11 playoff matches in 2023. He is an extremely well-rounded center and a great teammate.
It says a lot to see that he was so desired in Montreal.
O'Reilly eventually signed a four-season contract with the Nashville Preds, a deal worth a total of 18 million dollars. (4.5 million per year)
Would you have given him such a contract?
