While we thought Jeff Petry's departure was set in stone, Stéphane Waite has just surprised many.
During his appearance on the Sortie de zone podcast with Jérémie Rainville, the former Habs' goaltending coach made a statement that implied that Petry might stay with the team after all.
According to him, it really wouldn't be hard to convince the veteran defenseman to stay in town, considering his family's love for Montreal.
"I don't think it would be very difficult to convince him to stay. Especially since I know his family loves Montreal. Now, I know people are going to say, 'Well, that's why she went home to Michigan,' but there's the context of COVID-19, there's the context of the school, there's the context of a lot of things. It's easy to judge, but I know that his family has always said that they love Montreal, Jeff being the first one. To me, yes it's doable. I just don't know what happened this year to make it change so much."
If we believe his words, Petry could very well stay with the Habs, although I highly doubt it.
I think that something broke between the organization and the number 26, it will be difficult to repair the broken pots in my opinion. Sometimes a fresh start is healthy for an individual to clear the air.
As I often say, love is not always enough.
