It remains to be seen which players will be sacrificed by the organization over the next few weeks and we are starting to get an idea of the identity of the CH players who should change address within a month.
Joel Edmundson, Sean Monahan and Jonathan Drouin come to mind, but as Marc-Olivier Cook of Danslescoulisses.com reports, one of the Bell Centre crowd's favorites could be among those who could be traded by Kent Hughes.
In an article in The Athletic, reporter Corey Massiak identified 12 players who could prove to be great bargains heading into the trade deadline and Samuel Montembeault's name is ninth on the list.
The Canadiens goaltender is having the best time of his career in the NHL, but with Jake Allen making a comeback recently, the organization may be tempted to trade him to a team looking for a great second goaltender for the playoffs.
It's not a bad idea, as Montembeault probably has excellent value right now, but to be honest with you, I don't think Kent Hughes will sacrifice him between now and the end of the season.
Also, according to Anthony Marcotte, the Laval Rocket's game writer, coach Jean-François Houle has every intention of using Cayden Primeau in his team's upcoming games.
If Montembeault were to be traded, the organization would be left with one less goaltender and in the event of another injury to Jake Allen, number 35 would be an excellent insurance policy.
But I'm asking anyway, because it's an interesting debate that a credible media outlet has just raised.
Personally, we wouldn't trade him.
