Ryan Poehling about to lose his spot? A surprising player is emerging

Despite the difficult season that the Canadiens are going through this year, there are still some great stories.

We can think of those of Samuel Montembeault and Michael Pezzetta, but we should not forget the one that forward Laurent Dauphin is writing himself.

Acquired from the Nashville Predators in January 2020, in return for Michael McCarron, Dauphin is having his best season in the NHL, having tallied 2 goals and 5 assists in 24 games so far.

Often used on the PK by coach Martin St-Louis, the 26-year-old forward is a wildcard and analyst Maxim Lapierre even declared that Dauphin is stealing Ryan Poehling's place in the team's roster.

During his appearance on the Jean-Charles Lajoie show, he mentioned that we should give Dauphin a real chance by giving him a permanent place on the team.

«Let's give him another year and I'm sure we'll see that this guy can cause quite an upset and become a solid player. He's stealing Poehling's place, in my opinion."

Lapierre also said that, often, some players can develop late and perseverance can eventually pay off, which is happening to the Habs forward this year.

«Teams put a lot of effort into developing 20-year-old guys, and 26-27 year olds are projects to be abandoned. I don't believe in that. There are players who develop a bit later in their career."

Dauphin is used on average about fifteen minutes per game and the way he has been playing lately, I don't see how he could be sent back to the American League.
