It was time for a recap for the Boston Bruins, following their elimination against the Carolina Hurricanes, and Quebec forward Patrice Bergeron responded very clearly to a rumor that has been circulating for too long:
Bergeron was just asked if he sees himself playing elsewhere next year: 'No.' - Matt Porter
I just had a chat with Bergeron on the side (open locker room!) and he completely ruled out joining the Montreal Canadiens. It's understandable why some thought it might have happened, but it didn't. (It won't.) - Matt Porter
We strongly suspected it, but now the matter is settled for good. Even though he's from Quebec, even though he's pretty much at the end of his career, and even though he has a special relationship with Kent Hughes, Patrice Bergeron will not be signing with Montreal.
He hadn't made up his mind yet, but now he has.
It is true that Bergeron is a Quebecer, but he has been established (with his family) in Boston for a very long time. He loves his life there.
The most likely scenario, in our opinion? He could sign a one season contract with the Bruins and see where it all goes.
Either way, it will depend on his health, because clearly, that's the priority.
More details to follow!
