At the end of the season press conference, Kent Hughes admitted that he would be watching a lot of hockey between now and the next NHL draft. For this reason, he flew with several members of the club's staff, such as Jeff Gorton, Vincent Lecavalier, Nick Bobrov and Martin Lapointe, to Finland to take notes. Geoff Molson would even be among them.

Our colleagues at Fanadians have tipped us off to the identity of the players being observed. According to what Marco D'Amico of the "Montreal hockey now" blog reported, three players are at the top of the list, namely Juraj Slafkovsky, Simon Nemec and David Jiricek.

D'Amico got this information from Slovakian journalist Tomas Prokop. He would have discussed with Vincent Lecavalier and he would have confirmed the information.

We remember that the Habs have the first overall pick in the next NHL draft. Although it would be surprising if Hughes were to turn his nose up at Shane Wright, it is interesting to see that he could also be interested in Juraj Slafkovsky.

Slafkovsky was in action against Canada with Hughes watching and finished the game with 5 shots in 17:41 minutes of play and a -5 rating. He has 2 points in 3 games so far in the tournament.
