Real steal by the Canadiens: Hughes acquired a high first-round pick by deciding to draft Lane Hutson
We talk a lot about it, but it's important to know just how special a prospect Lane Hutson is for the Montreal Canadiens.
His statistics compare favorably with the best NHL defensemen, like Quinn Hughes and Adam Fox, in the same league and at the same age.
He did it last year, and he's doing it again this year.
The most common question is this. If he is so special and so good, why was he a 2nd round pick, and not a high 1st round pick?
The answer is very simple. At the draft, Hutson was a player of 5'7" and 147lbs, which scared many teams.
A former scout of the Nashville Preds even mentioned this:
"If Lane Hutson had been two inches taller and twenty pounds heavier at the draft, he would have been selected Top-3 overall."
Kyle Woodlief
Well, today, Hutson now has those two inches more and those extra pounds! It changes everything!
See the following post.
Clearly, Hutson has grown.
If he actually reaches a height of 5 feet 10 inches, or even 5 feet 11 inches, we'll be talking about one of the biggest steals of recent years in the draft.
He is officially listed at 160 pounds, but he continues to work hard in the gym.
Everything indicates that he will eventually be a 5 feet 10 and 175-pound defender, and a home run for Kent Hughes.
Turning a 2nd round pick into a top-3 overall pick, and into a player as promising as Logan Cooley or Adam Fox, is huge for a rebuild!
A name we must continue to watch!
