Selected at the very beginning of the second round of the last draft, 33rd overall, the 18-year-old center has been impressing since the start of training camp and as my colleague Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com reports, some are still wondering why Kent Hughes still hasn't signed him to a contract.
That's the case, among others, with Matt Drake of Habs Eyes on the Prizes.
It's unclear what Kent Hughes' plans are for Owen Beck, but for the Habs' first preseason game against the New Jersey Devils, he'll be on the first line of three under center Cole Caufield and Mike Hoffman.
Is this an audition for a possible contract?
It's obviously too early to speculate on the future, but the fact that Beck was placed on the Habs' first line in the very first exhibition game of the season is a nice sign of confidence and let's just say it's promising for the future.
