Pierre LeBrun raises a major trade rumor between the Canadiens and Avalanche involving center Sean Monahan

Sean Monahan represents one of the nice surprises of the beginning of the season for the Habs. Acquired from the Calgary Flames last August, the forward has 10 points in 18 games so far and considering the price Kent Hughes paid to acquire him, we can talk about a bargain.

However, he will be an uncompensated free agent after the season and we don't know what the organization's plan will be regarding him and as we know, there is always a surplus of forwards on the Habs right now.

With his good start to the season, Hughes could be tempted to sell him to a team looking for a deep forward and according to a well-connected informant, Monahan's name is currently at the center of some rumors.

According to Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now, Pierre LeBrun has reportedly mentioned that the Colorado Avalanche are reportedly looking for a second-tier center and that Monahan is among the players that Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland may be interested in.

Monahan would definitely be of interest to the Avalanche.

But the Habs forward isn't the only potential target for the Avalanche, as LeBrun also mentioned Jonathan Toews and Ryan O'Reilly as options for the Stanley Cup champions. But in the case of these two players, it is likely that the price will be much higher than with Monahan.

However, it is obvious that Monahan's value in a potential trade is much higher than Jonathan Drouin or Evgeny Dadonov for example. If number 91 continues his excellent work, Kent Hughes could have the opportunity to wait for the best possible offer, as was the case at the trade deadline with a certain Artturi Lehkonen.

Could the Canadiens make another deal with the Avalanche, this time involving Sean Monahan?

To be continued, but Pierre LeBrun seems to believe it. Would you do it? And if so, what would you ask for Monahan?
