Since the beginning of the current campaign, Phillip Danault has been playing an impeccable defensive game, faithful to his good habits. However, offensively, just like last season, his level is not up to par. In five games so far with the Los Angeles Kings, he has only scored one goal.

I guess that's why he finds himself wherever he's found himself, on the Los Angeles Kings' third unit. Todd McLellan loves Danault, but maybe he's realizing that he really is the perfect third pivot on a team that's aiming for big things.
Yesterday, the Kings lost 7-3 to the St. Louis Blues, which was the fourth loss in five games for the team. In that game, the combinations were as follows:
Arvidsson - Kopitar - Brown
Kempe - Kupari - Iafallo
Grundstrom - Danault - Moore
Kaliyev - Lizotte - Vilardi
Following this game, Danault played 16:35, spent 2:47 on the shorthanded, only 10 seconds longer than Anze Kopitar in that regard, and then won 64% of faceoffs. Danault has been true to form so far, a quality third center.
