Monster trade proposal between the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks

You have every right to be skeptical, we are too, but we report the information.

In the last few hours, TSN reporter Mike Johnson has proposed a major trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the San Jose Sharks.

Knowing that Kent Hughes is actively looking for a right-handed defenseman who can help on the power play, the TSN analyst drew a parallel with the Sharks, who want to trade their star defenseman Erik Karlsson. They absolutely must find a team that can absorb his monster contract, which runs until 2027 at 11.5 million per season.

According to Johnson, it will be extremely difficult for San Jose to trade this contract, despite a phenomenal start to the season for "EK65". (28 points and 11 goals in 19 games)


According to him, to conclude such a transaction, the Sharks will have to welcome another heavy contract, with a similar duration.

He then immediately thought of Brendan Gallagher and the Montreal Canadiens.

Karlsson, 32 years old, effectively earns 11.5 million per season until 2027.

Gallagher, 30 years old, earns 6.5 million per season until 2027.

Obviously, if the Montreal Canadiens want to get their hands on Karlsson, Kent Hughes will have to add a pick and/or prospects, in addition to "Gally".

Other possibility

Another possibility for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would be to trade Brendan Gallagher, for a pick or a good prospect, to allow a third team to facilitate a trade involving Karlsson.

It seems a bit more realistic as a scenario but hey, Gallagher is still very useful to our Habs.

Anyway, you be the judge, but Johnson certainly seems to believe that the Montreal Canadiens will have a say in a possible future major trade involving star defenseman Erik Karlsson.
