Earlier today, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis took many fans and experts by surprise when he announced his new lineup:
Mike Hoffman is now on the first line with Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki. He has taken the place of Sean Monahan.
When asked about this decision that caused a stir today, see what St. Louis had to say:
"He (Hoffman) plays with confidence. He reads the game well offensively. He's got a good shot and he's got grit. I like his game right now and this is a great opportunity for him."
Also, Martin St. Louis on his trio changes:
"We have three goals in two games, we're trying something else. We can't just wait for our power play to click. We have to manage, produce chances. We're missing a little bit of finishing. Hopefully we'll get it tonight."
- Remarks reported by Patrick Friolet, RDS
Some believe it's to "show off" Hoffman for a possible impending trade, but St. Louis mentions it's simply because he likes Mike Hoffman's game right now.
Stay tuned! We can't wait to see how the veteran responds to this vote of confidence and promotion. (He was on the fourth until yesterday)
