Major public statement by Martin St-Louis regarding the demotion of Arber Xhekaj and this story is going extremely far in the media, according to him
In a press conference earlier today, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis was extensively questioned about the demotion of young defenseman Arber Xhekaj to Laval.
"On Xhekaj's demotion to Laval, he explains that it's part of the development process of a young player and cites the example of Justin Barron.- Via Luc Gélinas, RDS"
"Martin St-Louis, on what Arber Xhekaj needs to focus on in Laval: 'he just needs to be a pro, just work. You (the media) are making a big story out of it; he's a young player, it's part of his process, to reach the highest ceiling he can as a professional athlete. Via Priyanta Emrith
Martin also explained that this will help Xhekaj grow as a player, and that the emergence of Struble is absolutely not related to Xhekaj's demotion to the AHL. St-Louis emphasized this point.
He seems to clearly think that the media is making too much of this story.
In short, note that Xhekaj practiced with the Rocket today and is expected to make his debut with the Canadiens' farm team tomorrow night.
