What if Hughes traded Price's contract?
This is exactly the issue that the GM of the Montreal Canadiens has agreed to address, with great transparency, in an interview with the renowned Pierre LeBrun.
Here is his particularly intriguing statement:
"I don't know what that would look like (as a trade), and I don't know if it will ever happen, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as impossible."
- Kent Hughes
Interesting! Hughes thus opens the door to a possible trade of
Carey Price, despite the complications.
He then adds that he must examine all options to improve the team, but he insists that a transaction involving Price is "certainly not impossible."
A matter to keep in mind, then!
It could obviously resemble the trade of
Shea Weber, whom the Golden Knights acquired to put on their long-term injured list (before trading him again to Arizona).
Also, for a team trying to reach the NHL's salary floor, like the Chicago Blackhawks or the Arizona Coyotes, Price could be a solution for them.
Price, 36 years old, is under contract for another three seasons.
His spot on the payroll is $10.5 million, but he actually earns $2 million per season (in addition to about $6 million in signing bonuses).
Do you believe Price will be traded by Kent Hughes before the end of his contract? Would you do it?
