Change alert : two signatures have just been announced and a surprise departure within the Lightning organization
In the last few minutes, we have witnessed unusual movement in the National Hockey League.
First, the Tampa Bay Lightning caused a surprise by deciding to release forward Josh Archibald.
Why is it a surprise? Simply because Tampa had just signed him (for two more seasons at that).
"In July 2023, the Lightning grants a 2-year contract worth 1.6 million dollars to Josh Archibald.
In September 2023, the Lightning announces the release of Josh Archibald."
Here is the possible reason:
A few seconds after releasing him, GM Julien BriseBois immediately replaced him with
Tyler Motte. Interesting.
The Lightning signed Motte for the exact same amount that Archibald was earning.
It's as if Kent Hughes decided to release
Joel Armia, and then go sign
Tomas Tatar as a replacement (at 3.4 million dollars per season).
It's rare to see this, but that's what just happened in Tampa, as Motte will literally take Archibald's place in the lineup.
Motte, 28 years old, performed very well with the New York Rangers last season, collecting 10 points in 24 games (19 points in total in 2022-23).
Also note, in closing, the signing of
Colin White with the Pittsburgh Penguins (professional tryout).
