August 18 was a big day for the Montreal Canadiens. While Kent Hughes announced the acquisition of forward Sean Monahan from the Calgary Flames, the general manager gave an important update on the health of Carey Price and let's just say that the news was not very good in his case.
But if it was an eventful day for Kent Hughes, it was also the case for Habs VP of Communications Chantal Machabée, and as J.B. Gagné of GoHabsGo reports, his plans changed during the day after the Monahan trade was announced.
Speaking on 91.9 Sports with host Max Truman, she talked about how she found out about the Flames trade and let's just say it was a funny situation.
I said to myself, 'Hey, just before the season starts, we're going to go play a nice round of golf (with his team of assistants),' and on the sixth hole, Kent calls me. He says to me: "Hello Chantal, well, we are completing a transaction! The call (to the league) will come soon. But in fact, I'm going to write this down for you because it's a bit long!" I tell him: "No, no Kent! Give it to me right now. I have my scorecard and my pencil and he starts giving me the details of the transaction, but with all the conditions and then I burst out laughing! Kent, finally, so email it to me!"
Even if her round of golf was disrupted, it shows the beautiful chemistry that is being established between her and the DG of the Habs and also, that no matter what the members of the organization do, a transaction can happen any time with the new direction of the Habs. We love it!
