Kent Hughes has often said that he is a hockey nerd. As proof, he was, before being named head coach of the CH, coach of a junior team in the Massachusetts area when he didn't even have a child on the team. That's how much he loves the game.

Before accepting his position as GM, however, he made a promise to his young players. He told them to qualify for the nationals and that he would come and coach them during the tournament. He had checked and the tournament dates fell after the trade deadline and the NHL GM meeting. He would find a way to free himself up.

Motivated by this promise, the kids did qualify for the competition. That's all it took for Hughes to put his money where his mouth is.

As Luc Gélinas mentioned during his morning segment on 91.9 Sports, the CH GM flew to Rochester, Michigan on Tuesday after the GM meeting in Florida to make good on his promise.

Renaud Lavoie just added:

"Kent Hughes is in Detroit. He joined the Boston Junior Eagles, which he managed before being named GM. The team qualified for the Chipotle Hockey (U16) tournament this week and had promised his players that he would return behind the bench. Nice gesture!" - Renaud Lavoie

So the Boston Eagles will play their first game of the tournament against the Arizona Jr. Coyotes starting this Wednesday at 4:00 PM. If they make it to the grand finale, they will play on Monday, April 4 at 10:00am.
