Kent Hughes and the Canadiens could win the jackpot by acquiring the Flames' fourth center

There's a very interesting situation in the NHL that goes way under the radar.

One who was considered by many to be one of the best young center players in the NHL, Sean Monahan, is now completely overlooked by the Calgary Flames (and their new head coach Darryl Sutter).

His playing time has completely fallen off, dropping below nine minutes per game on a few occasions. We're talking about a center who is on the last year of a big contract, who produced at a rate of nearly 90 points per season in 2019 (62 points/82 games last season), but this season, nothing is going right.

One thing is almost certain, his time in Calgary is coming to an end.

It was my colleague Christian Matte at Marqueur.com who made the point and added that even after acquiring Tyler Toffoli in February, they went out and got Calle Jarnkrok as a rental player to finish the season.

Jarnkrok immediately moved ahead of Monahan in the Flames' lineup. That puts Monahan on the 4th line, as he has a cap hit of $6.375 million for another year and a half.

Monahan's name has been floating around in trade rumors for a while, but now it's coming.

There is a lot of talk that the Habs need a second center to back up Nick Suzuki. Maybe Sean Monahan could be their man? If he finds his form of the last years, it could be a real steal.

He's only 27 years old. Do you like the idea?
