The Canadiens' training camp starts in a little over two weeks and despite the presence of several young prospects on defense, it's hard to say that the defensive brigade the club will field in 2022-2023 will scare many teams in the NHL.

Looking at the bright side, Martin St. Louis is expected to start the season with David Savard, Chris Wideman and Justin Barron. Not to say that these aren't quality players, but it does show a certain lack of depth in the organization, especially at defenseman, and that Kent Hughes could very well go out and get some reinforcement at that position.
Speaking of which, as reported by Alex Néron of Fanadiens.com, tipster Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now has suggested three right-handed defensemen that the Habs should have their eye on in the coming weeks, in order to bring some depth to the team.
First, there's New York Rangers defenseman Nils Lundkvist, who won't be at the team's training camp, and it could very well be that Chris Drury is looking for a partner in a potential trade, and since Jeff Gorton knows him so well, he could end up in the Habs organization.
D'Amico also talked about Los Angeles Kings' young prospect Helge Grans and 22-year-old Montrealer Bode Wilde. In their case, the defensive congestion of their respective teams could make them available for a trade.
These three names will be on the watch list until the start of the Habs' training camp, and Kent Hughes could once again pull a rabbit out of his hat.
