He is probably trying to show his new bosses how valuable he is. The trade deadline is fast approaching and it wouldn't be surprising if he was in high demand by opposing teams. In terms of value, in my opinion, he is one of the best values on the market.
Remember, Kent Hughes mentioned that he prefers talented and fast teams. Toffoli is talented, but he is not known for his explosive skating. It doesn't fit with the style the new GM is talking about.
However, according to journalist Eric Engels, he not only increases his trade value, but also his value within the organization.
Since his return to action, the Habs have collected four points out of a possible six. Is this a coincidence? I don't think so. He is a cornerstone of this team, there is no doubt about it.
However, if the new GM wants to start a rebuild and the offers for Toffoli are priceless, I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes sent number 73 away. Remember that GMs always overpay at the trade deadline. Hughes is likely to have some tempting offers on the table in the next few days or even weeks.
Personally, I love Toffoli, but if Hughes gets a big offer in return... Goodbye Tyler!
