Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton continue to look for ways to improve their roster, and one way to do that will be to watch the NHL waivers.
Each day the names placed on waivers will be more and more interesting, and there are teams to watch.
For the Canadiens, who are looking for a defenseman (as per Hughes and Gorton), the teams to watch closely are:
- Anaheim Ducks
- Calgary Flames
- Edmonton Oilers.
We're talking about organizations that have too many defensemen, and will have to release "NHL caliber" ones.
These are clubs that have eight or more "NHL" defensemen, plus four defensemen on professional tryout contracts (12 in total).
They will be closely watched, especially since, as the very reliable Darren Dreger (TSN) revealed, according to his sources, there will be some very interesting names available on waivers for the Montreal Canadiens.
Remember that the CH has the "first overall pick", the priority, to claim players. We will keep you informed!
For those who believe that the Habs don't have the necessary space under the NHL salary cap, the excellent Marco D'Amico explains here why the CH will have space on the payroll to claim players:
