Here's an incredible stat on players traded at the trade deadline that says a lot about the market

On the day after the trade deadline, NHL GMs were trying to find the missing pieces to help their team go all the way and win the Stanley Cup. If you thought that acquiring a player at the trade deadline was a sign of success, think again.

Joshua Clipperton reported an impressive and very significant statistic on Monday regarding those players traded on the deadline. Since 1980, 1,177 players have moved on this date. Of those, only 26 have won the precious trophy in the same year. The last one on the list is Barclay Goodrow in 2020.

It's a thoughtful one to all those GMs who pay the big price on a day when the price to acquire players is often very high. By agreeing to the deal, the GMs then accept the fact that the success rate is almost zero. Is it really worth it?

In the end, 33 transactions took place on this final day of the 2021-2022 season. It will be interesting to see if at least one of these will add to that statistic!
