Occupying the position of general manager of the Montreal Canadiens since May 2012, Marc Bergevin begins his last year of contract with the team.

The main interested party actually brought some precision to his contractual situation on Wednesday, making it clear that no progress would be announced before the end of the 2021-22 season. Several informants even added to this by claiming that negotiations between the two parties would be in stand-by
Present on the set of the daily show JiC, insider Renaud Lavoie also added his take on this issue. Indeed, despite the good work of Bergevin in the maneuvers of the team and despite the love that he feels for the Montreal Canadiens, the deal would not be the same on the side of Geoff Molson...
"It takes two people to dance," said Lavoie. "Whatever is proposed by Geoff Molson, it doesn't do the trick. Why not? Because there is a market. There are specific salaries that are given to general managers."
"My conclusion: Geoff Molson doesn't want Marc Bergevin to be his general manager anymore because if he didn't, it would be settled a long time ago."
So would it be a question of salary, or would it just be a pure hockey decision? As has been the case since the beginning of this saga, we may have to wait a long time to find out what's behind this deal, but an extension for Marc Bergevin seems more unlikely than it was just a few weeks ago...
