Dom Ducharme reveals that the CH players have asked to go on the roof of the Bell Centre on the famous night of June 24, 2021
Surely everyone remembers where they were on the evening of June 24, 2021, when Artturi Lehkonen scored his famous goal to send the Canadiens to the Grand Final.
On Tuesday night, Martin Lemay played the clip of that beautiful goal on the sidelines of his column with Dominique Ducharme. He certainly didn't expect to get a juicy anecdote when he asked the ex-coach how it felt to hear the description of that goal again.
"There's the thrill all the time, it's normal. It's so at the right time. With everything that was happening in Quebec in addition, we remember, with the pandemic, people were starting to come out and the atmosphere around the Bell Centre." - Dominique Ducharme
"That night, the players were so happy and then wanted so much to be part of the party that they asked Paul Wilson to go see if they could go on the roof of the Bell Centre to see what was going on down there. But because it was too dangerous, he took them to a place on the 7th floor where they could see. The players were really excited to be a part of that too." - Dominique Ducharme
As Lemay mentions, it's nice to see that the players are sensitive to the fans' passion. While people always think Montreal is hard on players, an anecdote like this proves that players love the passion of the city's fans.
